The Day the Music Died

So last night Jamie and I got to go to a musical at a theater in Orem. The Musical was Aida, by Elton John. I had never seen it before and it was a very good musical, although I will say that it is very clear that Elton John was one of the creators! LOL I really enjoyed going, but it really made me miss it all. For a couple of years now I keep telling myself that I am going to try out at the local musical theater company, and time and time again I chicken out. I just cant bring myself to do it. I don't know why, but I have never had that kind of confidence to just jump in and do it. Unfortunately I know that I miss a lot of opportunities because of it. It really made me start thinking about how since I have moved to Utah, music has slowly almost disappeared from my life, and last night really made me realize that I feel like some part of me is missing. Even if I don't join a musical, I am not part of a choir anymore, I don't have a piano, and barely see one anymore, in fact In the last year I have only sat down once, and really played the piano like I know and love. It really is quite frustrating, and I really feel lost. I often say to myself, well just fix it, go try out for a musical or what not, but I also have school and work and family, that I just don't think it is feasible. I really don't know what to do, but I know I need to do something because I think that I am starting to fade fast, and something so important, that made me get up each day and helped me get through the hell my life was from the time I was 8, is slowly disappearing. I almost feel like I have lost a child, my baby, and I am really down about it!

Hey Steph! I know you, and you have an AMAZING talent! That is sad that you feel so lost with it, but I do know how you feel and would feel the same if i didn't have my horses! You should at least join the choir in your ward or take one day to find a piano somewhere and play it to your hearts content! You will feel that feeling you once had come back..even if it is just a little bit!

this blog makes me sad. i don't know why you don't have the confidence to try out, you are a great singer and actress. and i am surprise your calling in church has nothing to do with piano playing or conducting. try out and play some piano at the church. :)

Aw, Steph! I know how you feel. I gave up music and theatre after high school. I don't feel as much of a draw to it as it sounds like you do but I definitely miss it. I still get a taste of it through Alex but it's definitely not the same. You should definitely try to find an old piano at the DI or a yard sale or something. Anything is better than nothing, right?? Good luck! I hope you're able to find fulfillment...and I'm glad you like Aida!!
